What is the most resilient parasite? Bacteria? A virus? An intestinal worm? An Idea Resilient, highly contagious. Once an idea has taken hold of the brain, it’s almost impossible to eradicate. An idea that is fully formed, fully understood. That sticks, right in there somewhere. - Inception
I recently watched Inception again. One reason is because I watched #169 Interstellar from the director Christopher Nolan and the other because I became more interested in lucid dreaming (more on that in another post). Also this is another good example of #172: One Thing Leads To Another And This To Another. So when I heard the quote at the beginning in the movie I thought directly about advertising in general or call it marketing. Companies try to put their brand almost everywhere they can. If you see it, it will be in your mind and “it’s almost impossible to eradicate” it. A good example is always
If I tell you right now you should not think about a pink elephant. Did you manage to not think of a pink elephant?
I mentioned it twice, so probably you are right now thinking of a pink elephant (now three times).
So what I want to tell you with this post is, that just try to take care which “Ideas” (or call it Thoughts) you will let in your mind. It will probably influence you in a way (could be good, could be worse). But if you want to keep it low, try to avoid the obvious things, like scrolling down your feed inside your favorite social media network or avoid the news as much as possible, because these are some things where you don’t have control at all.
See also this post here about Subliminal Advertising. These subliminal ads created an 18.1% increase in Coke sales and a 57.8% increase in popcorn sales.
So you are at the end of this post and probably you thought about these things:
- idea
- parasite
- bacteria
- virus
- coronavirus
- inception
- leonardo dicaprio
- christopher nolan
- interstellar
- social media
- pink elephant
- coca cola
- popcorn
And if you haven’t then you think about them now.
